Coldspring rolls over Splendora 67 to 0.

Well after the "Battle of San Jacinto County” what do the football fans of San Jacinto County have to look forward to? Although; district 22-AAA is now half way through the pre-district and district play, you can mark my words that it is not on the downward fall.
Do you remember last year about this time many were wondering just how far the Trojans would go? I made the comment you had better have your Christmas shopping done early. Folks; I would again suggest that you have your Christmas shopping done very early. That is if you don't want to miss an exciting Trojan Rumble. The Trojans have not popped their opponents with 405 points, 2733 yards of rushing and a total offense of 3176 yards, 215 tackles, 69 ‘'QB'' sacks. They have held the opponents to only 51 points. ‘'Hey'', and this season is not half over. All I can say is wow…..!
Before we get into the Trojans and the Cats game I need to congratulate one of the Trojan football players. After all the highlights were in and all the record books were signed and certified, we do have a state and national high school record that was tied. Colton Monroe's 99 yard run, during the Coldspring VS Shepherd, went down in the State and National Record books as one of the only three high school football players to have a 99 yard run during district play.
HOWEVER…! Mr. Monroe's 99 yard run did go down in the Coldspring Record book as the longest rushing run in Trojan History. So with that said; congratulations Colton Monroe for topping the Coldspring-Oakhurst record books. Once again, another Trojan has raised the bar for future Trojans to compete against.
On October 7, the Trojans packed the bus and headed down highway 59 to a small town called Splendora, Texas.
Although the Splendora Wildcats are not slated as a state contender, you can count on the Cats having their claws out and ready to take a bite out of the Trojan's record. The only advice I can give the Wildcats of Splendora is to be careful what you wish for. The game warm up session for the Coldspring Trojans went extremely well. Jerrell Sykes and many of the players dropped very few passes and the warm up was intense. Everyone, including all the coaching staff had one and only one item on there ‘'to do list'', and that was to secure a win against the Splendora Wildcats. As you can see from the score (( 67 to 0 )), the Trojans did very good at ‘'taking care of business''.
The Wildcats won the toss and elected to receive. ‘'The Ked'' (Kidrick Harrison) Captain for the Trojans told the Referee, that flipped the coin; we want the wind in our face, as he pointed to the south side of the stadium. This would give the advantage to the Trojans during the second half.
As Greg Dunham's kick off sailed through the air at 7:30 the game began to get under way, of what was to be a landslide of Trojan scoring, and defensive attacking. During the first half, defensive specialist, and Free Safety Jay Trapp commented, "The linemen managed to keep the pressure on the quarterback by shooting the gaps, which in turn gave our linebackers time to cover their receivers, and pretty much just shut down the Cats offensive.” I would have to agree with Jay 100 percent. To be able to score 67 points and hold the other team to 0, you have to be doing something right.
While we are on the topic of ‘'Defense” I am going to go ahead and remove all suspense. Yes, we do have an ‘'At A Boy'' award to present this week. Folks; the Trojan defense has been, and is currently rated in the top of all High School programs. Coach Blake Morrison, Defensive Coordinator, has put a winning combination on the field for the Trojans and it is working to perfection. Coach Morrison is the Coach. Who is responsible to make sure that the plays that the coach sends in is worked to a tee? That would be none other than the Trojan that the players just call ‘'Ked''. Kedrick Harrison wears the number 44 jersey. At any one time, during a defensive attack you will find that number all over the field. Yes, there are many very, and I do mean very good defensive players on this team. During this game the ‘'Ked'' had three tackles, and three assists, oh, and one touchdown. When a game is in the last few seconds and the win is all but secured, most teams just ‘'TAK'' (take a knee). This is when the quarterback receives the ball from the center and just goes down on one knee. This stops play and continues the clock to end the game. Well the Coldspring Trojans have invented a new football term ‘'TTL'', (To The Lineman). Over the last few games, and during the last few minutes of the last quarter, and the game is secured, Coach Barbay sets the ‘'TTL'' in motion. Last week Chance Andries and Josh Pierce got the call to end the game. Chance had a 5 yard run, and Josh had a 9 yard run and a first and ten. This week Chance again got the first call to secure a first and ten. However, ‘'Ked'' gets the last call of the game by hitting the center of the line and powering 10 yards for the final score of 67 – 0.
I am not going to dwell on "PBP” (play by play) this week, simply because the Trojans managed to shut down the Cats offense and defense just about at will. To kind of give you a general scenario, or synopsis of the game, let me just ‘'PBP'' the first few downs.
The Cats received the opening kickoff and went 3 downs and had to punt. The Trojans are called for holding twice and are back in their own territory. Sherman Gilbert breaks loose and shoots up the side line from a pitch out from Alfred Scott for the first touchdown. However; the holding call against the Trojans cancelled the touchdown. With a fourth and 7 Sherman again goes off tackle and breaks in the secondary of the Cats and just out runs the secondary. This sets up the ‘'PAT'' (point after touchdown) by Greg Dunham, for the first of many scores. The score with only a few seconds rolling off the clock is now 7 to 0, Coldspring favor.
The Cats managed to get into Trojan territory and looked like it may prove a score for the Cats. NOT so, as the Defensive Team of the Trojans hold the Cats offense at bay and they have to attempt a field goal shot. To be real truthful with you, I had already told myself that the Cat's could possible hit a field goal or two. The Cats had two very good field goal kickers. During warm up the cats were kicking 40 yard field goals, impressive. During a game situation things change drastically. With fourth and goal for the Cats, they attempted their first and only field goal. For whatever reason, the kick went way wide and short, so no points for the Cats.
The ‘'No Field Goal'' set the Trojan Offense in motion with Colton Monroe securing two first downs. Sherman Gilbert again goes off tackle from a spread offense and manages to go 62 yards for the second touch down of the night. Greg splits the uprights once again.
Josh Pierce, offensive guard for the Trojans remarked, "Most everything is working this evening. Our traps are getting their guys out of the way for our running backs to power through.” The double team effort of Pierce and center Jacob Mizell was working to perfection, I might add. "The offense seems to be clicking fairly smooth,” Commented Josh.
OK Sports Fans; the only time that the Cats appeared to have a chance to score was deep into the third quarter. The Cats quarter back stepped into the pocket and actually had a few seconds to find a receiver down field. The quarterback launched a beautiful pass but, Douglas ‘'Tootie'' Johnson thought it looked to good to be true. Tootie managed to knock the ball out of the receivers hand and kill the only score of the night for the Cats.

Charlie Stats: (LOL)
For ever 10, minutes that the Trojan fans were in the stands the Trojans scored 13.9 points and dug up 93 yards of turf.
The fans got their moneys worth this game.
Who's Next:
Another contender for the coveted 22-AAA district title would be the Cleveland Indians. The Indians do have the ability to score and will be trying to get past the goal line anyway they can. This is the second year of the new offense and defense for the Cleveland Indians. It is coming together but I do not feel that they will be able to compete with the speed of the Trojans. The Indians offense does have the ability to score off the Trojan Defense but I do not think it will be a dominating factor in the game.
The Indians have scored 65 points against Shepherd and Splendora; Coldspring has scored 126 points against the same. Cleveland has given up 36 points against the two teams and Coldspring has not given up any points. So in "John Nunn”, calculation, and I could be wrong. Cleveland's numbers would be 65 – 36 = 29. Coldspring numbers would be 126 -0 = 126. The points on the table are going to be "eye watering” Coldspring 126 – 29 = 97 points. In the real world, I am sure that Coldspring will get there 50 to 60 points and Cleveland may brake a surprising TD or two.
This is the Homecoming game for Coldspring Trojans so get yourself a brand new mum and head to the field on Friday night and help the Trojans keep the win at home.
The crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen will take place at halftime. So get to the field early, because the stands fill up quick.
Just one more comment, that is the way I see it at ‘'The Goal Line''.
